A few things are handy to know before you set off to visit the museums of Amsterdam.
Opening hours: most of the major museums open daily, generally from 09.00 or 10.00 until 17.00 or 18.00. The Rijksmuseum is even open every day of the year. The exceptions are New Year's Day and King's Day, when many museums stay closed.
Booking ahead pays off: at popular museums such as the Anne Frank House, the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, an online time slot saves you a long queue. At the Anne Frank House a visit is only possible with a time slot booked in advance.
Tickets and discount cards: an adult ticket costs between 16 and 25 euros at most of the major museums. If you are visiting several museums during your stay, a combination ticket soon works out cheaper than separate tickets.
