Resistance Museum – WWII
The Verzetsmuseum (Dutch Resistance Museum) in Amsterdam tells the history of the Second World War in the Netherlands and the former Dutch colonies. It does so through more than 100 personal stories of ordinary people facing hard choices: to adapt, to collaborate or to resist.
What can you expect at the Verzetsmuseum?
- Permanent exhibition: The Netherlands in the Second World War takes you through six phases from May 1940 to May 1945, each opening with a large film projection. It covers daily life, collaboration, the persecution of the Jews and the resistance.
- Colonies: A second permanent exhibition covers the war in Indonesia, Suriname and the Caribbean, along with exploitation, activism and the struggle for independence.
- Verzetsmuseum Junior: Children aged 9 and up follow the true stories of Eva, Jan, Nelly and Henk, four children who each experienced the war differently.
- Temporary: Until 7 February 2027, Hella de Jonge: Dichter bij hun ziel shows 37 paintings and 2 sculptures about her family's war history.
