The Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam-Zuid is one of the most important monuments in Dutch sporting history.

• Olympic history: The 1928 Olympic Games were held here, the only Summer Olympics ever to have taken place in the Netherlands.
• Architecture: Admire the stadium's monumental brick façades, designed by architect Jan Wils in the style of the Amsterdam School. Today, the stadium is a listed national monument.
• Marathon Tower: The approximately 46-metre-high tower is the stadium's most distinctive landmark. A flame was lit at the top of the tower during the opening ceremony on 28 July 1928, the first time an Olympic flame had burned in a stadium at the modern Olympic Games.
• Marathon Gate: Through this historic gate, the marathon runners entered the stadium for their final metres in 1928. Today, participants in the Amsterdam Marathon also start and finish at the Olympic Stadium.
• Remarkable restoration: The stadium was once threatened with demolition, but was saved and extensively restored. Later additions were removed, making the original 1928 design clearly visible once again.

The Olympic Stadium is located in Amsterdam-Zuid, close to Stadionplein and Amstelveenseweg.

• See inside: The stadium is not permanently open to tourists. During guided tours and public events, visitors can also explore the interior.
• Worth seeing without a tour: Walk around the outside of the stadium to view its architecture, entrance gates and Marathon Tower from different angles.
