Moco Museum
The Moco Museum is a museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art, located in the middle of Amsterdam’s famous Museum Square (‘Museumplein’). It is housed in a beautiful villa from the early 1900’s, designed by the Dutch architect Eduard Cuypers. The Moco Museum first opened its doors in 2016 and has been at the forefront of promoting the up-and-coming Street Art movement in Amsterdam. It is the world’s first museum to house an exhibition of works by graffiti artist Banksy. Current exhibitions at the Modern and Contemporary Museum Amsterdam
The Modern and Contemporary Museum Amsterdam, Moco for short, has enjoyed international success thanks to its unique exhibition of works by street artist Banksy. Banksy, whose real identity remains unknown, is famous for his political and often humorous graffiti, as well as his critically-acclaimed film/documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010). The Modern and Contemporary Museum Amsterdam is the first museum in the world to exhibit his work in a formal setting. The exhibition, titled Laugh Now, contains 50 of his most influential works. The Modern and Contemporary Museum Amsterdam is also currently home to a collection of pieces by American Pop Art legend Andy Warhol, titled Royal. Future artists whose work will be displayed in the Moco Museum include the likes of Os Gemeos, Maya Hayuk and Kaws.
