Arrival of Saint Nicholas 2024

Every year, Sinterklaas arrives in Amsterdam by ship in mid-November. Then a whole parade accompanies him in a festive way through the city center. Hundreds of children welcome the children's friend and more than five thousand kilos of free candy are handed out along the route.

Programme, Route and Times 2024:

Water Route

  • 10:20 - Omval (first observation)
  • 10:35 - Berlagebrug;
  • 10:45 - Nieuwe Amstelbrug;
  • 10:55 - Hogesluis;
  • 11:10 - Amstelsluizen;
  • 11:20 - Walter Suskindbrug;
  • 11:30 - Scharrebiersluis;
  • 11:45 - Arrival at the Maritime Museum (reception by Mayor Halsema and the children's mayor)

Land Route

  • 13:35 - Start of land parade from Waterlooplein;
  • 13:35 - Rembrandtplein;
  • 13:55 - Frederiksplein;
  • 14:10 - Weteringcircuit;
  • 14:30 - Leidseplein - arrival of Saint Nicholas
  • 15:30 - End of programme (Goodbye Saint Nicholas)

The parade ends on Leidseplein, where Amsterdam mayor welcomes Saint Nicholas.
