National Remembrance Day 2026

Every year on 4th May, the National Remembrance Day takes place at the Dam.

Silent March

City Hall Square, 18.00 hours
Every year, the mayor of Amsterdam along with hundreds of people take part in a silent march from the City Hall Square to the Dam. The route passes through the old Jewish quarter, by the Dock Worker, the Names Monument, and the Shadow Quay.

National Commemoration

Dam, 20.00 hours
At 20:00 hours, everyone observes 2 minutes of silence to remember those who lost their lives in the Second World War. Before and after the silence, wreaths are laid, and there are ceremonies and speeches.
